China’s Yutu 2 Rover on Far Side of the Moon - Context

Million of thanks to Chinese contraption Yutu 2 (Jade Rabbit), the far side of the Moon now has tracks and marks of the Rover landing.

About the Mission to Moon (far side)

The China’s robotic Chang’e 4 lander-rover twin, successfully pulled off the first-ever soft touchdown on the moon’s unexplored far side, completely unknown to humanity. The Rover made soft touchdown to taste the gray dusty and dirt floor of the 186 kms, Von Kármán natural crater. On January 03rd 2019, the China also revealed the contraption name Yutu 2. The lander and first version of the Yutu touched down the moon surface in December 2013 (Chang’e 3 mission).

The Yutu 2 in association with its lander buddy will carry out the very first in-depth scientific investigations on the far side of the Moon. These two endeavours has four science technological instruments each, and these instruments will allow or enable the duo to identify and distinguish the Moon’s surface of Von Kármán crater in great details. The mission also made a out of the box experiment (growth of organism in low-gravity lunar environment) to collect the valuable date for scientific community.

Unfortunately, the duo Lander and the Yutu 2, are unable to send data back to earth, because they are located on far side of the Moon, technologically making it difficult to relay data back to earth. Due to communication from the far side of the Moon, many mission were not entertained by many space agencies around the world.

Highlights of the Yutu 2

  • Yutu 2 follows the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, the world wide GPS service established and made available by People’s Republic of China.
  • Yutu 2 to study map the Moons linear structure.
  • Analyse surface of far side of Moon (Soil, Rock sample for mineral composition).
  • Activation of Radio Telescope to try and listen to possible from signals from deep space (if any).
