Khushi Scheme by the State of Odisha


The objective of “Khushi Scheme”

  • Promote awareness and platform to discuss health and hygiene.
  • Retention of girls population in schools (especially in rural parts of Odisha) and avoid girls dropouts.

Brief about “Khushi Scheme”

A part of women empowerment initiative by the state government of Odisha launched the scheme in the year 2018 “Khushi”. Under this scheme, it was decided to provide free sanitary napkins to school girls in the state of Orisha.
This scheme to be implemented under Odisha state’s “Health and Family Welfare Department”.
Cost of the scheme: 70 crores (700 million INR)/year.
Girls population covered the “Khushi Scheme”: 1.7 million girls
This scheme is applicable to government and government-aided schools.

Important Note:

Khushi Scheme” is state-run initiative-programme by Odisha Government.
Ujjwala Sanitary Napkins” is an initiative by Central Government of India.
